The years passed. The work was undoubtedly interesting but exhaustingly heavy. And I had to use a one-year vacation. I did not try to go anywhere. Where to? I had nobody in the whole world. Health farms and holiday hotels are not for me, I am deprived of rights being not a union member. They valued me at the mine and would find some loophole for «non-Europeans» but my «Negro pride» did not allow me of using charity. Thus I spent my vacation, just 3 weeks, walking in the tundra, swimming in the lakes and even sunbathing if mosquitoes did not pester. No! I do not like the North! There is a lot of green but water squishes under it. There are many flowers but they are odorless and mostly yellow. Even poppies! If the weather is calm you can swim but the water is warm only on top and lower - unmelted ice.
