Once when I was a foreman of section #8, the dispatcher of night shift called me.
«They have an accident at the next section. Foreman Arzhba died. Take over the shift. The commission is on their way.»
Arzhba! Poor fellow... He was so happy that the exile was at last abolished and he would be able to go to sunny Abkhazia. He already booked a ticket. Mother whom he had not seen for 15 or 17 years is looking forward to see him. For he joined the army when being a boy. Then the war, captivity... and 10 years in prison camps and the exile after them. At last he could go!
No! It is inexcusable to die in Norilsk without having visited the native land.
I probably thought of that standing near the mutilated corpse with the smashed head having no face. There and then I made a decision - I will spend my vacation in the south.
