[Under police escort, I was brought to the steamboat Voroshilov... Here are Azerbaijanian women and children.] They surrounded me in an attempt to find out whether this river disgorged into the Caspian Sea. The Ob - into the Caspian Sea! Three crones, eight women and 32 children the oldest of whom is about 12... Here is their story: The crones' sons who are the children's fathers and their mothers' husbands fell prisoners in the Crimea. As a punishment there families were deported, they have no idea where and don't know why. For already to months they have travelled over the Central Asia and some other places. Eight children died. All of them suffer of diarrhea. As viaticum they got some bread and herring. The bread became mouldy and the herring is too salty.
