It had never occurred to me to refuse of the job the others rejected citing the swimming of the head. On the contrary! I was glad that in any spare moment I could muse upon a distance scene, to see tundra and mountains rather than barbed wire and a herd of slaves behind the wire. Goodness, how gloomy and hopeless it was! Then I laid into the work with double energy looking for oblivion.
