A woman rushed in the morgue yelling savagely,
«I killed my daughter, I crushed my baby.»
A dead girl of 9 or 10 months old was on her outstretched arms. Responding to Dr. Nikishin's question she explained,
«Our room is eleven meters. The old folk, grandparents - on the table. Under the table - my sister. A tenant with his wife and child - in the corner near the wardrobe. My husband and I - on the bed. Two children - on the bed-foot, and the little one next to me...»
Nikishin telephoned to the prosecutor who told him to go and check everything on the spot.
When Pavel Evdokimovich came back he just threw up his hands responding to my question.
«Look, Frosenka, I only wonder why the grandmother did not crush the grandfather, why the tenant and his family were not crushed and how they all managed not to crush each other.»
The woman was found not-guilty in the child's death.
