<I made a decision: I want to see Caucasus! But how will I get there?
– A small bus goes from Kislovodsk to Tbilisi along the Georgian Military Road over the Krestovy pass, – Alevtina Ivanovna suggested the idea.>
It is warm, quiet and, above all, safe. Can one wish for a better accommodation? The bus, a little rattling clunker, managed to reach Tiflis by only 9 p.m. In the south it is the depth of night. City is not forest where one can sleep under any bush. Several attempts to find out where I might perch myself were met with hostility. I need to get out of town. But where? The River Kura is on the left, a mountain on the right. I went up the mountain. But all the side streets ended in someone's garden where the owners were sleeping. Going higher and higher I came to a church with a cemetery enclosed with a fence which had a wrought-iron locked gate. I jumped over the fence and found a comfortable grave with a broad slab of black marble.
Crosses, angels, wreaths all around. Is there a better place? The stone has not got cold yet and I fell asleep as soon as lied down. It has been a long time since I slept that well.
