<Once in summer, when I was lying in the shelter at the vineyard because of rain a woman I didn't immediately recognised stealthily came to me.
"I am the mother of Todor, a lad who worked for you. You used to give him more eats in the field and the girls and I came to eat with him. I am a widow and you know what a widow's household looks like until kids are raised. We received many kindnesses from you! You paid Todor, a boy, as if he were an adult, made him some clothes and dresses for my Nastya for each holiday. You gave Todor a tenth of corn. It rescued us. Otherwise I had to sell the cow. And how is it possible to survive without milk having kids?> I cannot let Todor parade in your boot when you are going barefooted! Curse will come on us for that sin!
She put my boots at the shelter, bowed down to earth, said "jarta ma" ("Forgive me if I am guilty") and left.
