Our convicts <lived in the eleventh camp department in the valley>, those near the cemetery, and they saw the executed convicts brought on trucks from the special camp. They came to the site and... sat down.
«You can work as hard as possible but the reward is always a bullet! We will not work!»
I described the situation to the dispatcher but kept the strike quiet. I told the foreman to take a drill and bore, and myself sat in the scraper and began loading coal. Soon the dispatcher called,
«What is going on the site?»
«We are drilling and loading,» I said concisely and sneered imagining the commotion. All the bosses might be raised out of bed!
In the morning I got a kick in the pants.
«Why did not you report?»
«I said we were drilling and loading. Wisner was drilling and I was loading. I did not reported the workers as I understand them...»
A day later they began to work. «There is no truth and will never be!»
